Gotham FC and midfielder Maitane López Part Ways

HARRISON, NJ (Thursday, December 5, 2024) - NJ/NY Gotham FC today announced that midfielder Maitane López has departed the club to pursue opportunities in free agency.

“Playing for Gotham FC over the last two years has been an unforgettable journey, winning a Championship in my first year at the NWSL was amazing!” said Maitane. “I’m so grateful for the experiences and the great moments I had here. To my teammates, the staff, and the fans, thank you for your support and for making me feel at home every step of the way.”

Maitane joined Gotham FC during the international transfer window in 2023. She helped lead the club to its first NWSL Championship in 2023 after playing in 11 games with the club, including all playoff games en route to the final. In 2024, Maitane played in 13 games with Gotham FC in the regular season.

“We are proud to have had a player of Maitane's experience and quality in our environment for the past couple of seasons,” said Gotham FC General Manager and Head of Soccer Operations Yael Averbuch West. “We wish her the best of luck in her next step.”

Before joining the club in 2023, she played with Club Atlético de Madrid Féminas, one of the top clubs in Spain and in Europe. She has also featured with other prominent clubs such as Collerense, Levante UD, Real Sociedad de Fútbol.
