HARRISON, NJ (Thursday, October 17, 2024) - NJ/NY Gotham FC players Rose Lavelle, Jenna Nighswonger, Yazmeen Ryan, Emily Sonnett and Lynn Williams have been named to the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) roster for friendlies in October, it was announced today.
Lavelle was a part of the 2024 Paris Olympic roster that won gold this summer. With the USWNT, she has earned 106 caps. This season with Gotham FC, she recorded a new career high of goals scored in the regular season with six so far. Lavelle has started in 14 games and appeared in 19 with the club, registering 1,263 minutes.
Since her first call up in December 2023, Nighswonger has helped the USWNT claim titles at the 2024 SheBelieves Cup and Concacaf W Gold Cup as well as win gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the regular season with Gotham FC, Nighswonger has started in 22 of the 24 games she has appeared in, recording one goal and three assists.
Ryan is making her first senior call-up with the USWNT after her impressive play with Gotham FC this season. The versatile player has notched four goals and dished out four assists in the regular season. Her four assists currently leads the team.
Like Lavelle and Nighswonger, Sonnett also helped lead the USWNT to gold in Paris. She currently sits at 99 caps for her country. In her first season with Gotham FC, Sonnett has become a very consistent presence in the backline. She has started in all 24 games she has appeared in and has Gotham FC to nine clean sheets this season, which is tied for second best in the league.
Williams also earned gold this summer in Paris alongside five of her Gotham FC teammates. With Gotham FC this season, she has recorded four goals and two assists in 15 appearances. The NWSL all-time leading goal scorer most recently extended her scoring record to 80, with her goal against the Chicago Red Stars.
The USWNT will play Iceland on Thursday, Oct. 24 at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas (7:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. CT on TBS, Max, Universo and Peacock). The USA will face Iceland again on Sunday, Oct. 27 at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tenn. in a match presented by AT&T (5:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. CT on TNT, truTV, Max, Universo and Peacock) before traveling to Louisville, Ky. to host Argentina on Wednesday, Oct. 30 in a match presented by Jim Beam at Lynn Family Stadium (7 p.m. ET on TNT, Universo, truTV, Max and Peacock).
Gotham FC will return to action Sunday, October 20 against the Orlando Pride at Red Bull Arena. Fans can catch the game at 5:00 p.m. EST (ESPN, ESPN+, ESPN Deportes).
