Gotham FC is excited to release a limited edition five-piece Pride capsule collection designed by Global Creative Advisor and Two-Time World Cup Champion Ashlyn Harris and Swedish Designer Johanna Friedman.
The Pride capsule collection seeks to embody the spirit of inclusivity and diversity, and celebrate the beauty of individualism. Each piece reflects the vibrant colors of the LGBTQIA+ rainbow flag, weaving them together in reflection of a connected community.
Statement from Ashlyn Harris on the collection:
“We wanted to create something that felt very inclusive and authentic to the club that could be a uniting force for our diverse community. What's so beautiful about sports and soccer, in particular, is it's a universal language where everyone can show up and just be themselves.
“Fashion has always been my way to express myself. Through what I wear I can show up freely, wholly and authentically as myself -- an athlete, a designer, a mom, and a queer woman. In that spirit, this collection is far beyond just a piece of clothing or garment; this collection is sharing a message -- you have a home here. Whether you feel a little lost or need community or a chosen family, Gotham FC is creating a safe space. The culture we're creating is one where everyone belongs, and there are no labels that come along with that. It's just the freedom to be you.
“The Pride capsule collection pays homage to the history of gay liberation and the Stonewall uprising, which took place in the streets of New York City, Gotham FC's home. It acknowledges the powerful individuals who risked their lives for the freedom to be out and open, celebrated, and to have equal rights. The collection brings together the past, present, and future--honoring female sovereignty while also paying homage and respect to those who fought for our liberation, and all those who continue to fight for our freedom.”
The official unveiling of the Pride capsule collection took place on June 4 at the club’s official Pride match against the San Diego Wave. A portion of the proceeds from the capsule collection will go to the Newark LGBTQ Community Center, a volunteer-run, community-based organization committed to providing safe space, programs, and services that support the well-being of the LGBTQ community and our allies in the Newark, New Jersey area.
