Gotham FC’s Lynn Williams Named to NWSL Best XI of the Month, Presented by Mastercard

HARRISON, NJ(May 3, 2023)–In honor of her outstanding start to the season, Gotham FC star and U.S. Women’s National Team forwardLynn Williamshas been named to the NWSL Best XI of the Month, presented by Mastercard. The recipients of the honor were selected by the NWSL Media Association and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.

After missing the entire 2022 season due to injury, Williams has made a remarkable comeback since being acquired by Gotham FC in a trade on the day of the 2023 NWSL Draft in January. In her first six matches of the 2023 season – five regular season games and one match in the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup – Williams scored four goals. In the club’s 2-0 victory over Orlando on April 16, Williams scored in the 16th minute of stoppage time – the latest goal scored in a match in NWSL history.

Williams alsoestablished two milestones in one night. Her game-winning goal in Gotham FC’s 1-0 win over North Carolina on April 22was the 60th of her NWSL career – tying Christine Sinclair for second in the league record books. In the game, Williams also surpassed10,000 minutes played in the NWSL. Williams has already twice been named NWSL Player of the Week (March 26 and April 22), and her 14 shots on target are the second-most in the league.
