YAZMEEN ON THE FIELD

Yazmeen’s Soccer Origin Story: “I’ve been playing soccer since before I can remember. I started at three years old in rec soccer and just loved being out there playing 3v3 and with those little goals and learning a lot about the game. Once I started playing competitively, I knew this was what I was going to do in my life until I couldn’t do it anymore.”

Position on the Field: “My position switches a lot. I grew up as a midfielder, but now I go back and forth as a midfielder and outside forward. I channel different things, depending on where the coaches position me. But no matter where I’m on the pitch, I would describe myself as an attacking player. I like to rely on how I see the game – playing through-balls, making penetrating passes that allow my team to be successful in the attack. I like to create chances on goal and set up my teammates for success.”

On Playing for Gotham FC: “When Gotham made the trade for me, I learned about the club’s vision – building up the roster to compete at the highest level and win championships – and it really resonated with me. Now that I’ve gotten to know my teammates, it’s really special to be part of a group that’s hungry and bought into the process of becoming a No. 1 club.”

A Bond with New York: “I’m super-excited to have family here. My brother lives in New Jersey. It’s been really nice to connect more with them. I hadn’t spent much time in New York before, so this was a new place. Personally, I felt I really needed a fresh start. I love learning about the different cultures and communities in New York and New Jersey and meeting people from all over the world.”
