Gotham FC Takes Eight-Match Unbeaten Run to Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (Aug. 22, 2026) - Fresh off a comeback victory over the Kansas City Current, Gotham FC heads to Los Angeles this weekend to face Angel City FC at BMO Stadium, aiming to extend its eight-match unbeaten streak.

Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET Sunday, with ION carrying the national broadcast.

Gotham FC (13-3-4, 43 points) enters the weekend once again at the top of the NWSL standings following a 2-1 comeback victory over the Kansas City Current on Friday at Sports Illustrated Stadium. Midge Purce scored the equalizer in the 13th minute before Sam Kerr netted the game-winner in the 41st, becoming Gotham FC’s all-time leading regular season scorer with her 31st goal for the club and the first player in NWSL history to reach 80 regular season goals.

The victory extended Gotham FC’s unbeaten streak to eight matches, one shy of the club record, and marked its third consecutive win after conceding the opening goal. Gotham has won 12 of its past 15 regular season matches, along with two draws and one loss, and has scored in eight consecutive NWSL matches.

Angel City FC (7-7-4, 25 points) enters the weekend in ninth place in the NWSL standings after helping Gotham FC strengthen its hold on first place with a 1-1 draw against the second-place Washington Spirit on Sunday at BMO Stadium. Midfielder Ally Sentnor scored her first goal for Angel City with an 85th-minute equalizer, denying Washington two points and allowing Gotham to extend its lead atop the table to six points.

Sunday’s match marks the first meeting between Gotham FC and Angel City this season. Gotham has controlled the all-time series, holding a 7-1-1 record against Angel City across all competitions and winning each of the past five meetings. Gotham FC is also a perfect 4-0-0 on the road against Angel City, winning all four matches played at BMO Stadium.

In its most recent trip to Los Angeles last season, Gotham FC earned a historic 4-0 victory over Angel City. The result marked the largest regular season road win and largest margin of victory in a shutout in club history, while matching Gotham’s largest victory across all NWSL competitions.

Following Sunday’s match, Gotham FC returns home for its annual Pride match, taking on Portland Thorns FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Friday, Aug. 28. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET, with coverage on Prime Video.

Key Points:

  • Gotham FC enters the weekend with the third-best road record in the NWSL this season at 6-2-1. Gotham also owns the league’s second-best goal differential away from home at +6, trailing only the Washington Spirit at +7.
  • Gotham FC has won all four of its road matches against Angel City FC by a combined score of 9-2. The NWSL record for consecutive regular season road wins against a single opponent is five, achieved five times, including Seattle winning its first five road matches against both the Boston Breakers and Houston Dash.
  • Since returning from the April international break, Gotham FC has won 12 of 15 matches and earned 38 points, seven more than any other NWSL team during that span. Gotham, which entered the break in 13th place after winning just one of its first five matches (D2 L2), has conceded only nine goals since returning, five fewer than any other team.
  • Jaedyn Shaw recorded three shots and created four chances, including an assist on Sam Kerr’s game-winning goal, in Gotham FC’s win over Kansas City on Friday. Since July 15, Shaw has recorded 32 shot involvements (17 shots counting blocks, 15 chances created), tied with Sophia Wilson for second most in the NWSL entering Week 18 behind only Angel City FC’s Ally Sentnor (36 – 24 shots, 12 chances created).
