Gotham FC Signs Speck, Places Sonnett on Season-Ending Injury List

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Aug. 6, 2026) - Gotham FC has signed NWSL veteran Meredith Speck through the end of the 2026 season, the club announced Thursday in partnership with Dove as part of a tandem of roster updates.

Defender Emily Sonnett has been placed on the season-ending injury list after suffering a knee injury early in the club's July 24 draw at Portland.

Speck, who grew up on Long Island and attended Yale University in Connecticut, joins her home region’s club as a free agent following nine seasons with the North Carolina Courage. The left-footed veteran helped the club win two NWSL championships, three NWSL Shields and two NWSL Challenge Cups, playing multiple roles across all lines.

Speck, 33, has appeared in more than 100 NWSL regular season matches, including 100 with North Carolina. A native of Rockville Centre, New York, she spent her entire NWSL career with the Courage and Western New York Flash after beginning her professional career in Sweden with Västerås BK30.

Speck began her NWSL career in Western New York, playing one season in her home state before the club was relocated to North Carolina, where it became the Courage.

Gotham FC returns to action Friday against San Diego Wave FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, with Prime Video providing live coverage.
