JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Oct. 30, 2026) – Gotham FC hosts Utah Royals FC on Sunday at Sports Illustrated Stadium for NWSL Decision Day, the final matchday of the 2026 NWSL regular season, with the club seeking to secure its first NWSL Shield in club history.
Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. ET, with ESPN carrying the national broadcast. All 16 NWSL teams will play simultaneously, with Gotham FC fans eyeing the score in San Jose, where Bay FC will host second-place San Diego.
Atop the NWSL standings for 12 consecutive weeks, Gotham FC (17-5-7, 58 points) holds a three-point lead over San Diego Wave FC heading into Sunday and can clinch the Shield, awarded to the league's regular season champion, with a win or draw against Utah. Gotham FC can also clinch the Shield with a loss if San Diego Wave FC fails to win its final match against Bay FC.
Gotham FC bounced back from a loss with a 2-1 road victory over the Orlando Pride last Sunday to maintain first place. Midge Purce and Tierna Davidson scored for the reigning champions, while goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger made seven saves to help Gotham FC secure a crucial three points in the Shield race.
The Royals (14-10-5, 47 points) enter the regular season finale in sixth place, having already secured their first NWSL playoff berth. Utah played to a scoreless draw against Seattle Reign FC last Friday at America First Field, outshooting Seattle 11-9 and holding 58% of possession. Goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn and the Royals' defense limited Seattle to one shot on target as Utah secured a point in its final home match of the regular season.
Sunday's match marks the second meeting between Gotham FC and Utah this season. The clubs last met July 10 at America First Field, where Gotham FC rallied from an early deficit to secure a 3-1 victory behind two goals from Esther González and a first-half winner from Davidson. The victory marked Gotham FC's 100th regular season win in club history, making it the sixth NWSL club to reach the milestone.
Gotham FC owns a 5-5-2 record against Utah in all competitions. Gotham FC is unbeaten in its last five meetings with Utah, recording four wins and one draw.
Following Sunday's regular season finale, Gotham FC will turn its attention to the 2026 NWSL Playoffs, where the club has secured a postseason berth for the fourth consecutive season. A Shield-clinching result would secure the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
The opening round of the NWSL Playoffs will take place Nov. 6-8, with Gotham FC set to host its quarterfinal match at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 8. ABC and ESPN Deportes will carry the national broadcast, with streaming on the ESPN App for unlimited subscribers. The opponent and kickoff time will be determined following Sunday's match.
